João started his career as a journalist in Portugal’s main daily newspaper, Diário de Notícias. As a reporter, he worked in 15 different countries, covering subjects as varied as culture, sport, business and politics. In 2003 he moved to London, where he worked as correspondent and columnist. In 2007 he returned to Lisbon to establish the Time Out media brand in Portugal. He was editor-in-chief of the magazines Time Out Lisboa and Time Out Porto for eight years, after which he created the Time Out Market project in Lisbon's Mercado da Ribeira market hall - the world's first editorial project in physical form. In 2015, after Time Out Group acquired the Portuguese franchisee, he was invited to replicate the Time Out Market concept around the world, and became President and Creative Director for the global brand. Today, as well as continuing in these roles, he is an investor in various startups linked to the gastronomy sector.
